    Tilton has applied their nearly 50 years of experience in racing clutches to develop the ST-246 line of 246mm (9.7”) twin disc clutch kits for the high-performance street market. Unlike many of the “performance clutches” on the market, ST-246 clutches were engineered from the ground up as a true performance twin disc clutch and not an OEM-type stamped steel pressure plate with a floater plate added. ST-246 clutches are designed to provide high torque capacity, low wear rate, smooth shifting and good drivability. All ST-246 twin disc clutch kits include a billet chromoly steel flywheel and are available with either sprung-hub organic discs (850 lb-ft capacity) or solid-hub cerametallic discs (1250 lb-ft capacity).

    Since 1972, Tilton Engineering has been the leading supplier of small diameter racing clutches. Tilton racing clutches are world renowned for their performance and reliability, winning championships in nearly every form of motorsport worldwide, including F1, NASCAR, IMSA, IndyCar, SCCA, Formula Drift and SCORE.

    Tilton has now applied their nearly 50 years of experience in racing clutches to develop the ST-246 line of twin disc clutch kits for the high-performance street market. Unlike many of the “performance clutches” on the market, ST-246 clutches were designed from the ground up as a true performance twin disc clutch and not an OEM-type stamped steel pressure plate with a floater added. Featuring an aluminum clutch cover that shares technology from Tilton’s championship winning line of OT- Series racing clutches, ST-246 clutches feature heavy duty straps that attach the pressure plate and floater plate to minimize noise. ST-246 clutches are available with either sprung-hub organic discs for street applications or solid-hub cerametallic discs for street/strip applications.

    All kits include a billet chromoly steel flywheel that features a precision register for the clutch to provide optimal balance of the clutch/ flywheel assembly.

    All ST-246 kits, except for Camaro GEN5 and Corvette C6, can be used with OEM release bearings.  ST-246 clutch kits for Camaro GEN5 and Corvette C6 applications include an Tilton 6000-Series hydraulic release bearing (height preset at Tilton) that is designed to connect directly to the OEM clutch lineMost importantly, Tilton ST-246 clutch kits offer all this technology at a price point that is very competitive to the other clutches on the market.

    Precision machined aluminum clutch cover high-strength, stiffness and better balance than OE-type stamped steel covers.

    High-mass main pressure plate and floater plate machined from the same proprietary materials as used by Tilton’s racing clutches, provides high heat capacity and resists warpage. Heavy duty straps attach plates to cover to minimize noise and provide clean clutch release.

    Organic disc option, with sprung center hub to dampen engine vibrations and reduce gearbox noise, provides smooth engagement for street use and holds 850 lb-ft of torque.

    Cerametallic disc option, with solid center hub for higher strength, provides positive/precise engagement characteristics for streets/strip and holds 1250 lb-ft of torque.

    Chromoly steel flywheel provides high strength and long-term durability.  Features a precision register to locate the clutch and provide optimal balance, as opposed to loose fitting bolts & dowels used with stamped steel clutches.

    RAM 900 Series discs are the high tech alternative for all performance applications. Using a sintered iron friction material borrowed from high horsepower Pro Stock and Pro Modified clutches, 900 Series clutches provide extremely high coefficients of friction with minimal chatter and reduced static pressures. This type of material is engineered to provide a limited amount of 'slip' on engagement that allows the clutch to engage without overpowering the tires. All 900 Series discs use the high strength eight spring hub and Poly-coil springs for extreme dampening capabilities. This clutch disc is recommended for severe duty street and strip applications where driveability is not the highest concern. We recommend only RAM billet steel or aluminum flywheels for use with these discs.

    For higher horsepower applications, the Force 10.5 dual disc is the natural choice. Based on the design of the original RAM Street Dual, Force 10.5 is more street friendly by using a three strap system to locate the floater plate. This eliminates floater plate ‘rattle’ that is common on stand driven dual disc clutches. A high clamp load pressure plate assures plenty of holding power without excessive pedal pressure. Steel backed 300 series facing mean smooth engagement on takeoff and insure long service life. For higher torque capacities, the Force 10.5N features the proven RAM 900 series metallic facings. Force 10.5 dual disc systems handle bigger torque loads and are a bit heavier than their smaller cousins. This higher inertia translates into better low speed driveability in heavier vehicles, or in large camshaft profile applications. We start by using a factory GM LT1 based pressure plate setup and modify the lift/release as well as plate load to increase performance - all while leaving the pedal effort 100% factory. With the addition of our Kelvar™ material this allows us to move the power rating up 100 hp/tq from the carbon organic S series and give customers another option at this common power rating. What this translates to is a twin-disc clutch that has all the designed benefits of a factory unit with the ability to take serious abuse and generate a clean release with all GM factory-based hydraulics to 8000 rpm! We wrap these assemblies up using our patent-pending CNC machined billet steel flywheel to convert them to work in numerous applications - all of these units are balanced to less than 0.100 OZ/IN at no additional charge. Long life, great performance, and factory driving characteristics are all things you can expect from the SK Series twin disc clutches. While they will absolutely take a tremendous amount of abuse the only thing we don't recommend with the SK Series twin is drifting. The rigours of drifting do not do well with full-faced frictions, beyond that we highly recommend them for all other usages as long as you're within the power rating. These units not only thrive on the street where stop and go traffic are just as easy as driving a factory car, they also do great at the drag strip with numerous recorded 9 second passes, as well as the road course/HPDE/autocross track which allows you to take advantage of the reduced MOI and excellent high rpm release you can rest easy knowing they are up for the task, and will still get you home. When installed and broken in properly you should expect factory smooth operation and no chatter with a factory pedal effort and engagement feel - the only exception to this is if you are using an aftermarket master cylinder as the larger displacement will increase pedal effort and reduce the engagement window.
