How the Turbo System Works
Before the parts, it helps to understand how the turbocharger system works, so you can see why you would want to upgrade certain components, mainly the intercooler pipes, the intercooler, and the exhaust.
A turbocharger converts your exhaust gas from wasted energy into usable energy. It uses spent exhaust gases to drive the turbine, which spins the compressor wheel and compresses your intake air. Compressing the air lets MORE air into the combustion chamber. More air plus more fuel equals more power.
The other components work alongside the turbo for the most efficient setup possible. The intercooler cools the now-hot air from the turbo, and the hot- and cold-side intercooler pipes carry the air to and from the intercooler. After the turbo, your downpipes and cat-back lead the air the rest of the way out. Upgrading these components lets your EcoBoost run more efficiently and make more power. Intercooler Pipes
These pipes transport compressed air between the turbo and intercooler (hot side) and between the intercooler and intake manifold (cold side). They are built to withstand high pressure and do best with minimal restrictions to airflow, such as sharp curves or downward changes in diameter.
CV Fabrication offers hot- and cold-side intercooler pipes for both the 2.3L and 2.7L Bronco EcoBoost engines. They are lightweight, mandrel-bent aluminum for improved thermal capacity, finished in wrinkle black. Beyond the thermal benefits, they eliminate the near-90-degree bends and creases in the OEM pipes that restrict air.
The CV Fabrication pipes are also larger in diameter than factory, opening up airflow even more. The hot-side pipes are 2.5 inches leading into the intercooler and the cold-side pipes are 2.75 inches leading into the intake manifold.
They install with basic hand tools in about an hour and a half and come with all necessary hardware, including spring-loaded t-bolt clamps and ultra-resistance couplers that boost tolerance against heat and pressure.
Intercooler
In between the intercooler pipes is the intercooler. Similar to a radiator, compressed air flows through a dense panel of fins that dissipate heat and cool it down. Colder air is more dense, which makes more power when mixed with fuel in the combustion chamber.
CV Fabrication offers a larger, improved intercooler to replace the small, inefficient stock unit on both the 2.3L and 2.7L motors. It has 58% greater internal core volume than OEM and a 144% increase in external fin surface. On the dyno that produced an increase of 28hp and 45 ft-lbs of torque and a 31-degree reduction in charge air temps overall.
It is manufactured in the USA from top-grade aluminum and features a tig-welded proprietary bar-and-plate fin design with fully cast end tanks for maximum airflow versus other welded aluminum options. In open-road testing during 20-to-80 mph runs, the OEM intercooler saw charge air temps rise 22 degrees. The same test with the CV Fabrication intercooler yielded a 9-degree drop.
Exhaust
The turbo-back exhaust on your 2021+ Bronco is made up of two components: the downpipes and the cat-back.
Downpipes
Factory downpipes exist to comply with emissions while ensuring just enough airflow for a standard vehicle. In other words, they could be better. CV Fabrication offers high-flow catted downpipes for the 2.7L Bronco: 3-inch stainless steel piping with 700 CPSI catalytic converters for the highest flow while meeting emissions standards.
They come with high-grade V-band clamps for advanced leak protection and offer higher, more efficient airflow than the OEM pipes, adding horsepower and a more aggressive exhaust sound.
Cat-Back
The cat-back mostly resonates the exhaust tone. Factory cat-backs balance performance, fuel efficiency, and noise reduction for the average driver, running small-diameter pipes and a large muffler behind the rear bumper exiting to a single turndown.
