The Coyote Arrives

2011-2014 Ford Mustang GT Parts and Accessories

The 5.0L Coyote gave the Mustang GT 412 horsepower in 2011 and 420 by 2013. We took our own 2011 from a 12.79 bone stock to a 10.20 at 134 mph on the factory long block. Build yours with the parts that got us there.

Best 2011-2014 Mustang GT Upgrades

Tune and Off-Road X-Pipe: The cheapest real power on a Coyote. Our own 2011 GT went from 363rwhp to 377rwhp and dropped from a 12.79 to a 12.35 with nothing else changed. Start with our Mustang tuning guide.

Cold Air Intake: A JLT intake on top of the tune put our car at 401rwhp — 37 more than stock without touching the short block.

Long Tube Headers: The single biggest naturally aspirated gain on this platform, and the supporting mod every boosted build eventually needs. See long tube vs short tube.

Oil Pump Gears and Crank Sprocket: Do this before you add boost, not after. The factory pieces are powdered metal, and when they fail they take the engine with them. Read the cheapest engine insurance you can buy.

Supercharger: Where the Coyote comes alive. A Whipple 2.3L put our 2011 at 525rwhp and into the 11.26s; the 2.9L took it to 695rwhp and a 10.20. Compare kits in our supercharger buyer's guide and look up boost in the pulley chart.

Clutch and MT-82: The factory clutch is the first thing to quit. Ours stuck the pedal to the floor on the 2-3 shift three passes in a row. Pick the right kit with Which Mustang Clutch Is Right for Me? and see what a built box costs in the Calimer MT-82 FAQ.

Fuel System and E85: Past roughly 600rwhp the fuel system becomes the limit, not the blower. Our E85 conversion guide and injector sizing guide cover what Gen 1 Coyotes need.
