Whipple's calibration for the Bronco Raptor is not a piggyback and not a canned handheld tune. It is a full flash of the factory ECU, developed by Whipple in direct coordination with Ford, and it changes a lot more than boost targets.
We ran ours on a nearly stock truck to isolate what the calibration itself is worth, then compared that against what Whipple sees with the full Stage 1 package. The numbers are below, along with the parts of this tune that owners tend to care about more than horsepower once they live with the truck.
What a Full Flash Changes
This is the same approach Whipple takes with their calibration for the 2.3L and 2.7L Broncos, and it is what separates a flash from a module. A piggyback can only lie to the ECU about sensor readings. A flash rewrites what the ECU does.
- Engine power and torque. The headline, and the part that shows up on a dyno sheet.
- Transmission shifting and drivability. Shift points, firmness, and how the truck behaves in normal driving. On a heavy truck this is arguably the bigger quality-of-life change.
- Tire size. Corrects the speedometer and shift logic after you go bigger, which on a Raptor is a matter of when, not if.
- Gear ratio. Same idea, for anyone who regears.
- Auto start/stop. Disable it permanently instead of pressing the button every single time you start the truck.
The Tomahawk Flash Tool
The Tomahawk is the same device that ships in nearly every complete Whipple Supercharger kit. It reads and flashes a wide range of vehicles through an OBD2 cable, including the 2021+ Ford Bronco.
How the Process Works
- Plug the Tomahawk into the OBD2 port and use it to pull a .REQ request file off your stock truck. It saves to the supplied SD card.
- Send that .REQ file to Whipple.
- Whipple builds a calibration specific to your vehicle and sends the tune file back.
- Load the file onto the SD card, put the card back in the Tomahawk, plug into the OBD2 port, and follow the prompts to flash.

Our Dyno Results
We wanted a clean read on the calibration by itself, so our truck was completely stock apart from a UPR catch can and Vossen wheels. Baseline and tuned runs both happened at Palm Beach Dyno, same day, same conditions.

Roughly 50 RWHP and 50 RWTQ from a flash, with the second run confirming the first. If the baseline looks low for a truck Ford rates where it does, remember what this drivetrain eats on the way to the rollers, and that humidity and temperature were not doing us any favors that day.
The consistency between the two tuned runs is the part we care about most. A calibration that only makes its number on the one perfect pull is not a calibration you want to daily drive.
Calibration Alone vs Full Stage 1
Whipple's own testing showed gains up to 60 WHP and 80 WTQ. That figure was achieved with their MegaCooler installed as well, which makes it the full Stage 1 package rather than the calibration by itself.
That distinction is worth being precise about, because heat is the real ceiling on this engine. The calibration asks the turbos for more, and more boost means more intake air temperature. Add the intercooler and the tune can hold its numbers across repeat pulls instead of falling off as the truck heat soaks.

The 2023 Calibration Revision
As of April 30, 2023, Whipple revised this calibration. The update improved transmission capability and mid-range torque, and allowed more timing change, which means more power than the calibration was originally advertised to make.
