What Is the LRX
The LRX is an easy-to-use touch screen tune flashing device that works with a long list of Ford vehicles, including Mustang, F-150, and Explorer ST. It is the preferred device of Lund Racing, which is the main reason most people end up with one.
If you have used an SCT or HP Tuners device, the concept will feel familiar. Where the LRX earns its keep is everything it does when you are not flashing a tune, which turns out to be most of the time you own it.
What Else It Does
It programs and flashes through the OBD2 port, but the feature list goes well past that:
- Read and clear check engine lights and diagnostic trouble codes
- Perform service functions such as crank relearn
- Datalog your vehicle for your tuner to review
- Monitor live parameters like coolant and oil temperature
- Adjust for a different rear end ratio or tire size
- Store multiple tune files for easy reflashing
Available service functions and monitorable parameters vary by vehicle, since not every platform exposes the same data. Tire and gear adjust is not available on S197 cars, for example. Those limitations are minor next to how much the device covers, and being able to pull codes and datalog without a laptop in the passenger seat is worth a lot on its own.
How to Flash a Tune with the LRX
The process is genuinely simple. There are two halves: sync the device to the cloud on a computer, then flash the car.
Step 1: Sync on Your Computer
Download the LRX Updater software onto a Windows desktop or laptop with internet access. Install it, open it, then connect the LRX using the supplied USB cable. It syncs to the cloud automatically to upload and download tune files.
When your tuner uploads a file for you, repeat the update process and the new calibration appears in your Vehicle Files list. You can also import a tune file from a download on your computer if that is how it was sent to you.
Step 2: Save Your Stock File
Plug the LRX into the vehicle with the supplied OBD2 cable. The device powers on and runs its start-up sequence, and asks you to agree to the End User License Agreement before you can go further.
Once you accept, tap Programming and follow the prompts to save your stock calibration. Do not skip this and do not rush it. That stock file is your way back.
Step 3: Load the Performance Cal
Go back into the Programming menu and select Performance Cal. Tap the calibration you want and hit Continue to start the flash.
• You will not see Performance Cals until you have successfully saved your stock cal. That is by design.
• If your car is not currently on a stock tune, or you are not sure, contact your support agent at Lund before flashing anything.
• The flash can take up to 20 minutes depending on the vehicle. Hook up a battery charger. A dead battery partway through a flash is the one genuinely bad outcome here.
After the Flash
Once the car is running the Lund calibration, plug the LRX back into your computer with the Updater software open so it uploads your stock calibration to the cloud. If anything ever happens to the device, your stock file is not gone with it.
Then follow your tuner's instructions, which usually means datalogging under specific conditions so they can confirm the car is running safely and correctly. This step is not optional busywork. A calibration is a starting point, and the datalog is how it gets confirmed or revised for your specific car.
