Years ago, I was looking for the perfect sound for my '04 SVT Cobra and spent hour after hour on YouTube listening to everything out there. When all was said and done, I decided Borla S-Type was the ideal sound for me. I have now installed Borla S-Type exhausts on four Mustangs, with the 2015 Mustang GT being the latest.
I decided to go with the full cat back over the axle back this time around, and I was really glad I did. Since I don't weld, and the stock system is fully welded together after the cats, I was able to do the cat back installation myself and I can easily return the car to stock later if I need to; if I had done the axle back, I would have needed a shop cut the stock mufflers and have the axle back welded in. Also, this system flows much better and weighs significantly less than the stock system. With the stainless tubing, this kit is much better quality as well. My car had less than 200 miles on it when I installed this kit and the factory exhaust already had some rusty spots on it.
Installation was fairly easy, although the instructions from Borla were confusing at times. It seems as though Borla started with cat back installation instructions from the previous generation Mustangs and modified them for the 2015, but didn't do a very good job editing the final instructions for completeness and correctness. There were definitely some invaluable nuggets of information to figure out how to get the job done, but some references to components seemed to make more sense for solid axle cars (i.e. 'over-axle tubes' when all of the tubing runs underneath everything else on the car), some orientational references of components didn't make sense (i.e. the aft-most hangers were the 'forward hangers' in the instructions), and some steps seemed to be out of order or completely missing to get the kit fully assembled and installed. Having installed a handful of exhaust systems in the past, I think I would have been better off following my intuition right of the bat instead of trying to follow Borla's directions. The instructions were definitely disappointing to say the least, but that's where the disappointment starts and ends.
All in all, this system provided the classic growl that the 2015 Mustang GT lacks, and I'll keep buying Borla as long as they keep on providing quality-built, great-sounding exhaust systems.
