While that’s great for making sure no NVH makes it \nto the cabin, it doesn’t keep the bearings centered well under load, allows \nthe bearings to sag and ruin driveshaft alignment over time, and creates \nslop in the driveline during shifts and throttle application. \u003cbr\u003eOver time the OEM bushings become brittle, eventually dry rotting and \ncracking. Even on the best-kept cars, the stock bushings can start to form \ncracks in as little as 5-10 years. \u003cbr\u003eWhen the bushings wear and sag, it changes the alignment of the driveshaft, \nputting more stress on the joints. During rapid loading of the driveshaft \n(launches, shifts, and quick application of the throttle), the bearings are \nallowed to travel off-center, introducing slack in the driveline, which \nresults in laggy and unpredictable driveline response.\u003cbr\u003eOur upgraded driveshaft carriers keep the driveshaft firmly in place at all \ntimes. The 2-part design \nclamps around the OEM bearing. The old carrier must be removed, so a \ncutting tool is required. \u003cbr\u003eThe exact steps to access the carrier will vary slightly by model, but the \nremoval and installation of the new carrier are the same. The basic steps \nare: \u003cbr\u003eRemove any braces or splash shields preventing exhaust and heat shield \nremoval \u003cbr\u003eRemove or lower exhaust in area of center support bearing if needed for \naccess \u003cbr\u003eRemove heat shielding covering center support bearing \u003cbr\u003eCut off OEM carrier and remove rubber support material with razorblade, \nleaving base layer of molded-on \u003cbr\u003erubber intact on the bearing \u003cbr\u003eClamp new carrier around OEM bearing \u003cbr\u003eMitsubishi Evo 7\/8\/9 with OEM Driveshaft\u003cbr\u003eWe are currently looking into the DSS 2-piece driveshafts to see if one of \nthe carriers will fit.\u003cbr\u003eStreet and Track refer to the durometer (stiffness) of the bushings. Track \nare roughly twice the durometer of the street bushings. Both track and \nstreet are many times stiffer than stock and will hold up to whatever abuse \nare thrown at them, but the street bushings are better at soaking up \ndrivetrain noise and vibration. Usually both street and track are \ncompletely silent and vibration-free, but in cases where there is an \nunderlying drivetrain issue causing the driveshaft to vibrate badly, the \ntrack bushings may not be able to soak it all up, where the street bushings \ncan. \u003cbr\u003eWe generally recommend street bushings for any car that's not purpose-built \nfor track or overland use, since the street bushings have a much lower \nchance of transmitting drivetrain NVH to the cabin at high speeds or under \nheavy throttle loads.\u003cbr\u003eIf you’re not sure which to go with, the “Give me Both!” option will give \nyou a full set of each of the street and track bushings.
