With any performance Mustang, it's important to make sure the components you have on the car are suited to handle the power you plan to make and accommodate the type of driving you plan to do. Whether it's street driving, taking on the drag strip or tearing up a road course, it's essential to upgrade your 2018 or 2019 Mustang driveline parts, including gears, differentials, drive shafts and axles. As with the previous years, the stock half shafts on the 2018 and 2019 Mustangs can only handle a certain level of abuse before they snap. The fix is an aftermarket set of axles from The Driveshaft Shop, GForce Engineering or Ford Performance. Lethal Performance has used the DSS half shafts on several of our S550s with excellent results, including our blistering 9.7@150mph run on our Whipple-powered GT. Depending on what you plan to do with your car, a different gear ratio may be better suited for the application than the factory gear set.
On a drag strip, the goal is to get down the track with fewer shifts and be in the powerband toward the end. So, choosing the right gear ratio for your application is very important. We offer gear upgrades and gear install kits from Ford Performance, as well as replacement OEM gears from Ford. Another crucial piece of the puzzle is the driveshaft. The stock 2-piece driveshaft wasn't designed to handle the kind of abuse these cars see once you start modding them. The answer is a single-piece aluminum or carbon fiber driveshaft. Not only are these driveshafts able to handle much more power than the stock parts, but they also weigh a lot less than factory pieces, allowing you to shed weight and rotational mass. We have used The Driveshaft Shop's carbon fiber and aluminum driveshafts over the years, and they perform great. We also offer options from GForce Engineering, Dynotech and QA1.
