With years of OEM and racing experience, Whipple engineers have developed a unique PCM calibration that reconfigures all the necessary engine functions including fuel, spark, knock detection, torque management, transmission control and electronic throttle control. The vehicles PCM constantly monitors the engines torque output while monitoring many different parameters to keep the engine in it’s ideal parameters. If a parameter falls below specification, the PCM will lower boost and torque output until the problem can be cured. No other calibration in the field has such technology, giving the Whipple SC system unheralded performance and reliability.
Why front feed? We gained nearly 1.75" in intercooler core and plenum volume to maximize power and power robbing restrictions. Giving us the biggest ic core while also having the biggest area below the ic and the side of the sc. This results in significantly lower pumping losses and lower IAT's. Not only does it have a large plenum below and on the sides, the front feed also has significantly open surface area above the IC core giving lower pressure drop and more effective cooling. The center discharge again allows for less pressure drop and more uniform airflow over the core. Resulting in better distribution and better cooking capacity.
During airflow, every turn is a possible restriction, requiring inlet losses and lower supercharger efficiency. The front feed minimizes the inlet losses resulting in lower losses and higher supercharger efficiency.
The lightweight tapered stainless steel jackshaft is .75" lower than a front feed, which helped with the intercooler size. It also allows torsional twist, helping belt systems and other components from the typical reciprocating mass issues.
Each system comes with a heavy duty spring loaded tensioner and adjustable idler system for multiple belt and pulley options. Also available is a 10-rib belt system using a ATI balancer. Systems are easily upgradeable. Because the supercharger is bigger, the sc uses larger sc pulleys for the same boost as others, resulting in better belt contact area and less belt slip.
The S550 now also features a heat exchanger that is 60% larger than previous generations, standard with every kit. Also available is the dual spal 11" electric fan kit. Each system also comes with an oversized ic reservoir, again significantly ahead of the competition. Holding nearly 1.3 gallons of liquid in just the reservoir alone! Nearly double any others.
