RAM 98-04 Corvette 6000 Series Disc and Aluminum Flywheel

RAM VDS is a complete clutch and flywheel package. The advantage of the VDS system is that the pressure plate is set up on the flywheel at peak pressure from the factory and you able to maintain this pressure level. VDS generates 2900 pounds of peak plate pressure, a solid 30% plus more clamp pressure than stock or other aftermarket clutches. The VDS pressure ring is high burst nodular iron and SFI certified for competition. The precision machined, ground, and balanced flywheel is fitted with high tensile/yield clutch mounting studs for easy installation and pressure maintenance. VDS provides excellent drivebality for street performance and the holding power necessary for competition.

By selecting the optimum disc combination for your LS1 vehicle, you can obtain smooth engagement for street driving or ultimate performance for the race track. 300 Series organic discs provide the smooth engagement but are limited on torque handeling capabilities to around 400 ft//lbs. Higher power levels can be accomodated on street tires. The 900 series disc provides a combination of excellent holding power for competition with minimal sacrifice in driveability. Some chatter can occur with this disc at lower engine speeds.

Keep in mind the job of the flywheel-to transmit intertia that is used to help move the car from a standing stop. A lighter flywheel will allow the engine to rev quicker up and down, which is excellent for road racing, or autocross where the engine is used as a brake. But for the majority of LS1 applications, the steel flywheel provides a more driveable combination that will launch well at the track without boggin the engine.

Hyrdaulics, because the factory hydraulics are non adjustable, an adjustable master cylinder is required with the VDS clutch system. This is due to slight differences in the lever heights and travel requirements of the factory clutch compared to the VDS clutch.
